The 28th edition of Ecomondo, Europe’s largest exhibition dedicated to the green, blue, and circular economies, opened today at the Rimini Expo Centre, organized by Italian Exhibition Group (IEG). The event runs until 7 November 2025, confirming Italy’s strategic role as a hub for sustainable innovation and industrial transition.
With 1,700 exhibitors, 18% of which are international, 380 hosted buyers from 66 countries, and 90 global industry associations, Ecomondo 2025 has strengthened its global influence. The event occupies 166,000 square metres across 30 halls, offering more than 200 conferences, including 70 organized by the Technical Scientific Committee, in partnership with the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
A Global Showcase For The Circular Economy
Opening the event, Maurizio Renzo Ermeti, President of IEG, emphasized Ecomondo’s role as the reference point for global green markets:
“Ecomondo has become the international stage for those competing in the sustainable economy. It represents pride, shared vision, and cultural growth in sustainability, supported by our ministries, scientific community, and international partners.”
Ermeti highlighted the evolution of an entire industrial ecosystem — from renewable energy and circular design to waste management and green technology — now consolidated within Ecomondo’s international platform, with strong representation from Africa, the Mediterranean, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.
Rimini: Capital Of The Green Economy
Jamil Sadegholvaad, Mayor of Rimini, described Ecomondo as more than a trade fair — “a cultural and educational space that presents solutions rather than ideologies.”
“Ecomondo transforms sustainability into a tangible industrial opportunity, improving the relationship between people, technology, and nature,” he said.
Michele De Pascale, President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, reinforced this vision:
“Ecomondo turns our region into a crossroads of innovation. It is a laboratory for the future, where sustainability becomes business, employment, and shared knowledge to confront global challenges such as climate change and energy transition.”
Research And Policy For A Sustainable Future
Fabio Fava, Coordinator of the Technical Scientific Committee, underscored the importance of the scientific dimension of Ecomondo:
“The conference programme provides the enabling factors for a more effective implementation of the circular economy and ecological transition. This year, the focus is on industrial supply chains with the highest environmental impact and on the restoration of ecosystems damaged by pollution and climate change.”
Over 80 international experts ensure the scientific rigor of the sessions, addressing critical themes such as sustainable materials, biodiversity, and climate resilience.
Meanwhile, Jacopo Morrone, President of the Bicameral Ecomafia Commission, called for stronger regulatory frameworks to align economic growth with environmental protection.
“We must ensure future generations inherit a cleaner, safer environment. That means new policies for managing waste from solar panels, batteries, and wind turbines,” he said.
The States General Of The Green Economy 2025
Following the opening ceremony, Ecomondo hosted the 14th edition of the States General of the Green Economy, organized by the Sustainable Development Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) and the National Council for the Green Economy.
This edition’s discussions focus on the state and future of Europe’s ecological transition within a changing global context. For the first time, the second plenary session (5 November) will be held entirely in English, underlining the event’s growing international reach.

ECOMONDO As A Catalyst For Global Change
Ecomondo 2025 confirms its position as a catalyst for sustainable growth and green investment, showcasing how the circular economy can fuel competitiveness and innovation across sectors.
By connecting policymakers, industry leaders, investors, and researchers, the event acts as a strategic platform for accelerating the green transition across Europe and the Mediterranean basin.
As the ecological and digital transformations increasingly converge, Ecomondo positions Italy — and Rimini in particular — as a driving force for sustainable industrial leadership in a rapidly evolving global economy.
