The electronic format of the inter-Arab motor insurance card (orange card) will become effective starting Friday, April 1, with the coming into operation of the electronic Orange Card System launched by the General Arab Insurance Federation (GAIF).
During the transition period which will run until June 30, 2022, both formats ( in hard copy and electronic formats ) will be used.

The office finalised all the technical and organisational preparations to implement the electronic system on the date set.
The Orange Card System is intended to encourage land traffic between Arab member states and increase trade.
The use of the electronic format of the Orange Card falls in line with endeavours to keep abreast of the latest technological innovations. The goal is to facilitate the conclusion of insurance contracts, increase movement between Arab countries, help handle claims and fight against fraudulent cinsurance ertificates.
Algerian and Libyan citizens traveling to Tunisia as well as Tunisians heading to these two neighbour countries will be able to use their smartphones for instance to show their insurance certificates.
Police and customs officers can check the authenticity of certificates via QR codes.
Over three million Algerian and Libyan cars entered Tunisia in 2019. This number dropped in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the shutdown of borders, particularly with Algeria, Hadroug added. The land traffic is expected to resume gradually from next summer.
