A presidential decree No. 2022-369 of April 12, 2022, was published Tuesday in the Official Gazette of the Tunisian Republic, approving the March 14, 2022 deliberation of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) Board of Directors, which authorise the conclusion in the name and on behalf of the State, of a loan agreement worth $700 million with the African Export-Import Bank Afreximbank.

This loan worth 2,097.61 million dinars will be concluded between the BCT and Afreximbank.

The BCT had expressed on February 3, 2022, its deep concern over the delay in raising the external resources needed to finance the State 2022 budget.

The BCT Board of Directors had underscored the importance of the government’s commitment to carry out structural reforms to boost economic growth and ensure sound budgetary management that provides access to the external resources needed to finance the State 2022 budget and avoid any recourse to monetary financing, whose consequences would be detrimental to monetary and financial stability.

Afreximbank is a pan-African multilateral financial institution dedicated to the financing and promotion of intra and extra-African trade.

Since its inception, the Bank has done much to support African countries in times of crisis.
