TICAD 8: Saïed calls on African countries to address pandemic-induced challenges

President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed urged African countries in his TICAD 8 opening speech to address the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pandemic exacerbated poverty and pushed private and public debt and inflation rates higher across the globe.

The eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development is an opportunity to consider proposals for a new Africa/Japan partnership approach, with a view to re-adjusting the development process and narrowing the gap between countries and in countries.

There is also need to support national reforms, ensure fair distribution of wealth and provide financial support to low-income groups, the President added.
