Consumer prices increased by 0.9% in May 2022 (over one month), while they grew 1.4% in April and 0.8% in March, according to a note published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) Sunday.

This increase is mainly related to the rise in prices of the group housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels by 2.5% and those of the group of furniture, household items and routine household maintenance by 1.2% and food products by 0.2%.

In fact, the prices of food products have risen slightly (0.2%), in monthly variation, due to an increase in prices of beef (1.5%), sheep meat (1.2%), fresh fruit (1.3%), grain products (1%) and edible oils (1%).

In contrast, the prices of fresh vegetables are down 3.6% and those of fresh fish 0.9%.

As for the increase in prices of the group of housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels (2.5%), it is the result of the rise in prices of the group housing maintenance and repair by 1.4% and gas and electricity prices by 12.2%, following the application of the new tariff.

The 1.2% increase in prices for furniture, household goods and routine home maintenance is explained by the 1% rise in prices for furniture and furnishings, the 1.5% growth in prices for household appliances and the 1.3% rise in prices for goods and services related to routine home maintenance.
