Tunisia has won 6 medals, including 2 gold for the quality of its extra virgin olive oil, at the International Olive Council (IOC) Mario Salinas Award 2022, the council said in a statement.
The 2 gold medals went to CHO Company of Sfax and the company Rajhi Ferjani Industries Food Bouargoub Nabeul.
The Biolive Company of Zaghouan and the Agricultural Company Nour El Ain (Utique Valley) in Sfax have won 2 silver medals.
The Tunisian American Olive Oil Company of Kef and the company Domaine Fendri of Sfax have each secured a bronze medal, according to the same source.
The company Bulla Regia in Ben Arous, Olivko in Tunis and «Etablissements Hatem Chaabane in Jedaida», the Pearl of Oil Packaging in Sousse and the company of small producers SPAL Tunis are among the finalists in this competition.
Winners of the competition will now be able to display the prize on the labels of the extra virgin olive oil belonging to the same batch as the winning sample. They may now request a special logo from the Executive Secretariat.
The oils were classified in one of the following 7 categories: robust green fruitiness, medium green fruitiness, delicate green fruitiness, ripe fruitiness, small-scale producers, packers and southern hemisphere.
Some 120 oils were entered into the competition.
